First Chinese assembled A320 with Sharklets goes to China Eastern

May 17, 2013 – China’s largest operator of Airbus aircraft, China Eastern Airlines, has taken delivery of its first A320 aircraft equipped with Sharklet fuel saving wing-tip devices, becoming China’s first carrier to do so. The aircraft is also the first Sharklets equipped A320 assembled and delivered in Tianjin.

F-35A Successfully Completes High Angle Of Attack Testing

May 16, 2013 – The latest in a series of Lockheed Martin F-35A high angle of attack (AOA) testing was recently completed.  The testing accomplished high AOA beyond both the positive and negative maximum command limits, including intentionally putting the aircraft out of control in several configurations.

May 15, 2013 – The first Boeing [NYSE: BA] P-8I long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft arrived today, on schedule, at India Naval Station Rajali. The P-8I is one of eight aircraft Boeing is building for India as part of a contract awarded in 2009.

Fully Painted A-350 rolled out

Painting of the first A350 XWB “MSN001” was today fully completed as it emerged in its Airbus livery out from the paintshop in Toulouse. This latest milestone shows that MSN001 is progressing well on its route to first flight. The aircraft painting was achieved in less than seven days and follows the recent completion of MSN001’s flight-test-instrumentation (FTI) verification. Last month the aircraft underwent its engines installation, and passed a subsequent intensive phase of ground vibration tests. MSN001 will soon start the final tests before its maiden flight this summer.

Boeing X-51A WaveRider Sets Record with Successful 4th Flight.

May 3, 2013 -- A Boeing X-51A WaveRider unmanned hypersonic vehicle achieved the longest air-breathing, scramjet-powered hypersonic flight in history May 1, flying for three and a half minutes on scramjet power at a top speed of Mach 5.1. The vehicle flew for a total time of more than six minutes.

National Air Cargo Boeing 747-400F crashes in Afganistan

April 29, 2013 – It has now been confirmed that all seven crew members aboard a National Air Cargo Boeing 747-400F died when the freighter crashed shortly after take-off from Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. Ethiopian and ANA return their Dreamliners to the sky.

April 28, 2013 -- Ethiopian Airlines and All Nippon Airlines have returned their 787s to the skies. The African Carrier returned to full revenue service on Saturday 27th April while on the same day ANA began a series of test flights ahead of reintroduction to service next month.

British Airways first 787 Dreamliner revealed.

April 24, 2013 -- RightStuffPhotography's Brandon Farris captured British Airways first 787 Dreamliner on a recent trip to Boeing's Everett plant. Unlike most existing Dreamliner customers, British Airways aircraft will have painted engine cowlings. Another new feature is the Airline's Crest which now appears just in front of the fuselage titling.

Porter Airlines Signs Purchase Agreement for up to 30 Bombardier CS100 Aircraft; Becomes CSeries Aircraft's Canadian Launch Customer

April 10, 2013 Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Porter Airlines has signed a conditional purchase agreement for 12 CS100 airliners, with options for an additional 18 CS100 aircraft. The agreement also includes purchase rights on six Q400 NextGen aircraft. The parties also disclosed that Porter Airlines is the unidentified, Americas-based customer that signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for CS100 aircraft as announced by Bombardier in December 2012.

Turkish Airlines commit to buy 50 737MAXs and 20 737NGs

April 9, 2013 -- Boeing has announced that Turkish Airlines has committed to order 40 737 MAX 8s, 10 737 MAX 9s and 20 Next-Generation 737-800 airplanes, valued at $6.9 billion at list prices. The agreement also includes options for an additional 25 737 MAX 8s.

NH90 NFH Nato Frigate Helicopter makes its maiden flight

April 8, 2013-- NHI has announced the first flight of the first NH90 NFH Nato Frigate Helicopter ordered by the Belgian armed forces.
The first 45 minutes flight was performed on april 5th at Eurocopter facility Donauwörth in Germany. The crew successfully tested the basic systems of this new generation aircraft. British Airways roll-out their first A380

April 7, 2013 -- British Airways have officially rolled out their first Airbus A380. The aircraft is due to be delivered in July and will initially be used for crew training on short haul routes. The first production Airbus Military A400M makes maiden flight.

April 6, 2013 -- The first Production Airbus Military A400M new generation airlifter has made its maiden flight, marking a key milestone towards its delivery to the Fench Air Force. The aircraft known as MSN7, took off from Seville, Spain at 11:48 local time and landed back in Seville 5 hours later. Experimental Test Pilot Hugues Van Der Stichel, who captained the flight, said after landing,: "The performance of hte aircraft was as expected and we had a very snmooth flight, confirming the great handling capabilities of the aircraft. The result of this first flight gives us full confidence for the on-time delivery to the French Air Force".

Boeing completes FAA mandated flight testing on 787 batteries

April 5, 2013 -- Boeing completed a 787 certification demonstration flight today on line number 86, a Boeing-owned production airplane built for LOT Polish Airlines. Today's flight marks the final certification test for the new battery system, completing the testing required by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

26 March 2013 -- Airbus has installed on the first flight-test A350 XWB (MSN001) its two flight-ready Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines and is also installing the new Honeywell HGT1700 auxiliary power unit (APU) at Airbus’ production facilities in Toulouse (France).

The bad news continues for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner program.

January 16, 2013 -- Following on from the voluntary 787 groundings by ANA and Japan Airlines on January 15th. The FAA today announced that all U.S. regestered Dreamliners are also to be grounded with immediate effect. The grouding will remain in place until issues with the aircraft's lithium-ion-polymer batteries have been successfully resolved.

Singapore Airlines firms up order for more A380s and A350 XWBs

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has firmed up an order for 25 more widebody aircraft from Airbus, comprising five of the world’s most efficient, high capacity aircraft, the A380, and 20 A350-900s. The deal was completed in 2012 and follows an agreement in October 2012.

Middle East Airlines firms up order for ten A320neo Family aircraft

Middle East Airlines-Air Liban (MEA), the flag carrier of Lebanon, has signed a firm contract for ten A320neo Family aircraft (five A321neo and five A320neo aircraft). This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding which was announced on 12th July 2012. MEA will announce its engine choice at a later date.

Fire breaks out on parked JAL 787

January 7, 2013 -- A fire has broken out on a Japan Airlines, Boeing 787 Dreamliner parked at Boston's Logan Airport. At the time of the fire there were no passengers onboard the aircraft and it has been confirmed that no one was hurt.

U.S. Navy Order 2 more C40s

Boeing has received a $145 million order from the U.S. Navy for two additional C-40A Clipper transport aircraft, increasing the service's ability to move military personnel and cargo around the world. The modified Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft will be the 13th and 14th C-40As in the Navy's Unique Fleet Essential Airlift Replacement Aircraft Program, which is replacing the Navy Reserve's aging fleet of DC-9-based C-9B Skytrains.

Boeing and Aeromexico finalized an order for six 787-9 Dreamliners, with reconfirmation rights for four additional Dreamliners. The order by Mexico's largest airline, which was first announced as a commitment in July, is valued at more than $1.46 billion at published list prices.
